The Forces of Consumerism

We are surrounded. Not just our physical existence that is engulfed by materialistic commodities, but even our thoughts. The businesses of the world have replaced our expression by mere "value" OF money. Expression of love is not just about feeling, it is about quantifying those. Quantified through products or services purchased.

One such field that specializes and invokes consumerism is the fascinating field of Marketing. It has delved into exploring the human mind. Each individual is treated as singular possible, as much as he is treated as one among the herd.

How does one draw the line between an Individual preference to that of a mass? Does Individual preference propel his singular growth? Does growth again come down to monetary value?

Consumerism is as told before a Herding concept. The propellant to consume is through identifying individual preference. An interesting irony is that; Marketing addresses both, persuading an individual to consume and save.

What drives consumption? A necessity, a habit, a luxury, one following another? Is it still about all these in today's scenario or even more? Is it an ADDICTION?

Then again, if it is an addiction, it could be self motivated or stimulated. How does it add value to ONESELF?

Do we need to get over the addiction? Is it good to deflate this addiction? Does it lead to sustained uniform economic growth of a nation?

Thoughts are questions to explore........Understanding is "the key" to important question.......With some more on the cards soon.....................
